Meet The Team - Hope Kids Occupational Therapy

Christie Leong

Christie graduated with Masters in Occupational Therapy from Latrobe University. Before joining Hope Kids OT, Christie has specialised experience in Paediatric Mental Health, having worked with families and children with emotional regulation and behavioral challenges as a therapist as well as clinical case manager. Christie also enjoys working with children with Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia and Sensory Processing difficulties. She firmly believe success lies with collaborating with the family unit to educate and build on existing strengths in a child’s network. Christie is passionate about lifelong learning and is constantly updating her repertoire of skills with regular professional training.

Christie actively volunteers for respite camps for children in the foster system, and has past volunteering experience as a swimming teacher for Waratha Special School as well as a ward volunteer in the Royal Melbourne Hospital. In addition to English, Christie is able to converse in Mandarin & also understands Cantonese.

San Yong

San graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). San loves working with children and their families on developing individualised goals to support a child’s development. San is experienced in providing intervention for sensory processing needs, sensory motor development, self-care training, handwriting training, social skills and emotional regulation. San is a creative therapist who aims to tailor therapy to suit the needs of the individual. She adopts an intuitive, playful and child-led approach to therapy, which enables a healthy and strong foundation on which to develop long-standing, therapeutic relationships with her clients.

Prior to commencing her OT career, San had experience working as a disability support worker & therapy assistant with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and Anxiety. San is able to communicate fluently in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.

Laura Salomons

Laura holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Australian Catholic University. She brings a wealth of clinical experience in assisting individuals with disabilities, specialising in community occupational therapy services for NDIS, TAC and AgedCare participants. Laura’s professional background includes extensive work as a disability support worker, primarily focusing on children with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Laura finds joy in family time and engaging in various craft activities like embroidery, crochet and macrame. She also enjoys playing the ukulele and camping with her husband and dog. Actively participating in her local church community, Laura serves as a dedicated youth leader each week.

Driven by her passion for facilitating children’s development, Laura is committed to collaborating closely with families to help children realise their fullest potential. She particularly thrives in supporting children with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities (ID).

Jin Xin Lee

Jin Xin graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). Jin Xin has specialised interest in Paediatrics and is passionate about working with children who present with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Global Developmental Delays, Sensory Processing Disorder and other special needs. Jin Xin is experienced in providing intervention for gross & fine motor skills, self-regulation, sensory issues, handwriting and social skills.

Jin Xin is a dedicated clinician who values building rapport with children and their families using a strengths-based and family-centred approach. With these approaches, she strives to ensure children are working through their individual goals in a fun, playful and motivating environment. Prior to commencing her OT career, Jin Xin worked as a private tutor where she provided group and one-on-one tutoring of various subjects including Mathematics, English and Mandarin for children aged 4 to 12 years old. Jin Xin is multilingual and is able to communicate fluently in English, Mandarin & Malay.

Jane Chan

Jane graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Deakin University in 2014. She has worked as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist both in Hong Kong and in Australia, with experience in special schools, mainstream schools, community and private practice settings. Specifically, Jane is trained in supporting children with ASD, ADHD, Intellectual disability, handwriting difficulties, developmental delays, and Sensory Processing Disorders. She is passionate about gaining rapport with children and families, establishing family-centred goals and support children to achieve independence in meaningful activities. Jane is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Outside of work, Jane enjoys archery, volleyball, baking and spending time with friends.

Kiara Cursio

Kiara has obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Occupational Therapy from La Trobe University. Throughout her studies, Kiara has also worked with children with ASD, ADD, ADHD and anxiety to improve and develop in the domains of interpersonal relationships, behavioural management, gross motor skills, self-care, leisure and overall functional independence.

Kiara has clinical experience as a disability support worker to enable children to maximise on their independence and occupational performance in the home, at school and the wider environment. Kiara’s role involved enabling clients to complete their respective activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and developed safe strategies to manage individual behaviour. Kiara is passionate about working as a paediatric occupational therapist, as she aims to enable children to live as happy and as independently as possible.

Kiara also loves to travel, and is proud of her Italian heritage being proficient in the Italian language.

Abby Hurleston

Abby graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from Monash University. Abby is passionate about improving the lives of children and their families through the use of a strengths-based approach to address areas such as activities of daily living, sensory regulation, fine and gross motor skills, social skills and motor planning. Abby has previous clinical experience working with children with a range of different diagnoses including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Down syndrome (DS) and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Abby has a natural ability to build rapport and enjoys using her creativity to ensure she is providing a fun environment to suit the individual needs and abilities of all her clients.

Outside of work, Abby is an avid soccer player and participates in state level competitions. Abby also actively participated in volunteering work such as The Dining Room Mission in Croydon where she prepared and served meals to the disadvantaged at the local Church.

Minsha Mathew

Minsha is a dedicated paediatric occupational therapist with seven years of extensive experience in the field. Her professional journey has taken her through dynamic paediatric healthcare landscapes in India, Dubai and Australia, where she has worked with children with Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delays and rare genetic disorders. Graduating with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, she has refined her skills and deepened her commitment to improving the lives of children through early childhood intervention and activities of daily living (ADL) training.

Minsha’s passion for paediatric occupational therapy shines through in her approach to empowering children to excel in their daily routines and developmental milestones in sensory processing, gross motor development and handwriting skills. In addition, Minsha is also a certified play therapist where she recognises the fundamental role of play in fostering social interactions, emotional regulation and cognitive development in children.

Her proficiency extends beyond language barriers, as she is fluent in Malayalam, Tamil and English. This linguistic versatility enables her to establish effective communication and build rapport with diverse families and communities.

Minsha remains steadfast in her mission to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and their families through her compassionate and skillful occupational therapy practice.

Stephanie Macdonald

Stephanie has a Master of Occupational Therapy from Monash University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science from Michigan State University. Stephanie has worked with the children with ASD, ADHD and Cerebral Palsy to improve and develop their learning in areas such as behaviour management, gross motor skills, fine motor skills and school readiness.

Apart from working as an Occupational Therapist, Stephanie is also an English as a Second Language Teacher with VIPKID, an online one-on-one English language teaching service for children living in China. Stephanie has worked with children ages 3-14 years old where she established a culturally safe environment by learning about Chinese culture, tailored communication style and energy levels by utilising verbal & nonverbal language to match her student’s learning abilities.

Stephanie has also worked as a disability support worker team lead where she supervised support workers, empowered clients with disabilities to complete activities of daily living, provided emotional support and developed safe strategies to establish community outings with clients. Stephanie loves travelling and is passionate about expanding her cultural competency skills through working in both the education and disability sectors.

Dannika Newland

Dannika has studied a bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and completed a Masters in Occupational Therapy (Monash University). She is passionate about helping children achieve their goals with a client and family centred view. Dannika is particularly interested in areas of gross and fine motor skills, motor planning, visual/sensory perceptual skills and handwriting skills.

She has experience with working with clients with Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Cerebral Palsy and further neurological disorders. She enjoys working with those to achieve goals within their self care, productivity and leisure activities. Outside of work Dannika enjoys being active going on hikes, runs, swimming and being at the beach. She also loves spending time with her family and her dog (Millie)

Joanne Goh

Joanne was born in Malaysia and relocated to Australia at a young age, where she completed her Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Occupational Therapy at La Trobe University. She is deeply committed to empowering children and young people, guided by a strong belief in the importance of client choice and self-awareness. Joanne is passionate about helping them take charge of their development and achieve their personal goals.

Her clinical experience includes working with neurodivergent individuals across various stages of life, including those with ADHD and autism. Joanne has provided therapy in diverse settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools and community environments. Her ability to communicate fluently in both English and Mandarin, coupled with her multicultural background, allows her to connect effectively with clients and families from various cultural backgrounds.

Outside of her professional life, Joanne enjoys brunch outings, karaoke sessions and sharing her knowledge of different bubble tea brands. Don’t hesitate to ask her for a recommendation!

Rachel Rosero

Rachel’s educational journey includes a Certificate II in Health Support Services and a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, both completed at TAFE Queensland Brisbane. She furthered her expertise with a Diploma in Health Science from Deakin College and earned a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Deakin University.

With a deep passion for supporting neurodivergent children and their families, Rachel is dedicated to identifying each child’s strengths and establishing personalised therapy goals. She is a firm advocate of client-centered practice, ensuring that every child is empowered to engage in meaningful activities and fulfill their life roles.

Rachel’s background as a medical assistant, where she collaborated closely with nurses and doctors, has honed her critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. She leverages these skills to deliver tailored services that meet the unique needs of each child, recognising that individualized support is essential for their development.

In her leisure time, Rachel enjoys visiting the beach, exploring fruit-picking opportunities along the peninsula, and traveling.

Albert Augustian

Albert Augustian is a passionate paediatric occupational therapist with seven years of invaluable experience in this role. Armed with a masters degree in paediatric occupational therapy and a special interest in DIR Floortime, Albert is deeply passionate about working with children with diverse needs which includes Autism, developmental delays, genetic conditions and sensory challenges. He has a wealth of experience in supporting children with self-care training, gross and fine motor skills, handwriting training, social skills and emotional regulation. His journey led him to Australia, where he brought his expertise to new horizons.

Albert has supported many families in the community within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) prior to joining Hope Kids OT. His compassionate approach and commitment to empowering children and their families make him a trusted advocate in the field of paediatric occupational therapy.

Albert’s linguistic versatility extends beyond English. He is proficient in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, facilitating seamless communication with families from diverse backgrounds. Albert has a special interest in creating sensory environment for children, providing them with safe and calming space to explore and develop.

Caitlin Shinnie

Caitlin is a dedicated paediatric occupational therapist who holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) from RMIT and a Master of Occupational Therapy Practice from Monash University. She has a wealth of experience delivering client-centred therapy and creating tailored treatment plans to meet the unique goals of her clients. Caitlin has worked across diverse settings, including community practice, supported disability accommodation,
and hand & upper limb therapy.

Before joining Hope Kids OT, Caitlin specialised in hand therapy, working with clients of all ages. Her passion for paediatric occupational therapy is evident in her focus on helping children succeed in their daily routines and developmental milestones. Caitlin excels in areas such as sensory processing, gross motor development and handwriting skills, and she is particularly skilled in supporting children with autism, ADHD and global developmental delay (GDD). Her mission is to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and their families through her compassionate and engaging approach.

Outside of work, Caitlin enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing basketball and tennis, and travelling. She also loves weekend getaways with her partner and their dogs.

Maddie O’Rourke

Maddie holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with Honours from Australian Catholic University. Prior to pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy, Maddie studied Early Childhood Education and gained over a decade of experience working in kindergartens, daycare centres, and as a nanny for various families in Melbourne and the UK. These roles provided her with a deep understanding of the importance of learning through play and fuelled her passion for delivering individualised support to members of the community.

Maddie is dedicated to empowering children by utilising a strengths-based approach and tailoring learning experiences to each child’s interests. She strongly advocates for family involvement, encouraging collaborative efforts to help children achieve their goals both within and beyond the clinic setting through creative, fun and practical methods. Her professional experience includes extensive work as a disability support worker, with a primary focus on supporting children with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Global Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy and other complex needs.

Outside of her professional life, Maddie enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with her family at the beach, which is close to her home. On the weekends, she looks forward to family getaways and catching up with friends over brunch.

Catherine Luah

Catherine graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with Honours. Before joining Hope Kids OT, Catherine has specialised OT clinical experience in community work and case management, having worked with families, both children and adults with various disabilities. She is passionate to support children with Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia and Sensory Processing difficulties.

Catherine endeavours to make positive contributions to the lives of others and empowering them to live their lives to the fullest. In addition to English, Catherine is able to converse in Mandarin & Cantonese. In her free time, Catherine loves pilates, travelling and enjoying food with her friends and family.

Gillian Teo

Gillian graduated from La Trobe university and have more than 25 years of both local and international exposure in the disability field. She has worked with both children and adults across the lifespan, within a range of setting including clinics, early childhood, school, homes and the broad community.

Gillian enjoys working with the diversity in children, families and values working in collaboration with others involved to achieve positive outcomes for the child and the family. Her focus is on providing goal-driven therapy intervention, learning enhancements and embed strength-based principles in her practice when working with families and others involved. Gillian can communicate in English, Mandarin, Cantonese , Hokkien, Hakka and Malay. Outside of OT, Gillian also teaches yoga and enjoys food , crime and legal dramas, superhero movies , travel and nature.

Fiona Leung

Fiona graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) and has experience working as an Occupational Therapist in various fields, from having worked with adults, geriatrics and paediatrics. Fiona has joined the Hope Kids OT team with a particular interest in paediatrics and sensory integration, and is motivated to work closely with the child, their family and support networks to achieve goals that are important to the family.

Fiona enjoys working with children of all ages with sensory processing challenges, developmental delays, learning difficulties and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Prior to joining our team, Fiona has experience supporting children in the community setting for assessments and early intervention. She has also facilitated the running of a Lego Group to develop fine motor, problem-solving, and social thinking skills in a play-based group setting. Prior to moving to Australia, Fiona has experience working as an assistant teacher in Hong Kong tutoring English for children aged 4-6 years old. Fiona is multilingual and is able to communicate fluently in English, Cantonese & Mandarin.

Aradia Young-Ekeh

Aradia holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Deakin University, where she skillfully balanced her studies with her role as a therapy assistant. In this capacity, she focused on capacity building with children spanning from primary school to young adulthood, particularly those diagnosed with ASD, ADHD and/or GDD. With a year into this role, Aradia seized the opportunity to expand her responsibilities by aiding in the establishment of her workplace’s in-house paediatrics clinic, igniting her passion for this field.

Within the clinic, Aradia engaged with children diagnosed with ASD and/or ADHD, as well as those without formal diagnoses, in areas such as reflex integration, sensory integration, emotional regulation and fine & gross motor skill development. She thrives on the creative and playful aspects of occupational therapy, fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for children to learn and flourish.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Aradia enjoys quality time with her French Bulldog Bléu, exploring new culinary delights, practising Pilates, and reconnecting with her family on the surf coast.

Janice Ho

Janice is a dedicated occupational therapist who graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours), demonstrating a steadfast commitment to paediatric care. With a fervent passion for supporting children’s development, Janice has amassed valuable experience in assisting individuals with a spectrum of diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Dyspraxia and various developmental delays.

Employing a comprehensive approach to therapy, Janice adeptly addresses a broad array of needs encompassing gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing, social skills, emotional regulation, handwriting and self-care skills. Janice’s dedication extends towards enabling children to optimise their independence and occupational performance within their home, school and broader environments.

Fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, Janice ensures effective communication, catering to the diverse backgrounds of her clients and their families. Her proficiency in multiple languages enhances her ability to provide personalised and culturally sensitive care. With Janice’s professional expertise and compassionate approach, she remains committed to empowering children to achieve their fullest potential across various facets of their lives.

Zahra Kazemi

Zahra has studied Biomedical Science from Monash University and Master of Occupational Therapy Practice from La Trobe University and is most keen on empowering children and youth to fulfil their goals and achieve their full potential. Having worked in hospital and community settings previously, Zahra is passionate to continue her work collaboratively with children, parents, care givers and educators to make a positive difference.

Her passion is working with children on functional skills, including gross & fine motor skills, emotional and sensory regulation, motor planning, visual perceptual skills, handwriting and social skills. Zahra works on the strengths of a family-centred therapeutic approach, and in turn, equipping her clients with the tools and confidence to reach their goals.

Outside of her work as an OT, Zahra supports a non-profit organisation aimed at meeting the social and cultural needs of a CALD community. She enjoys working collaboratively in team building tasks and learning activities. Zahra is also a mum of two beautiful young children. Currently on maternity leave, eagerly awaiting the arrival of her new joy and returning to contribute to the team soon.

Gladys Wong

Gladys graduated from Latrobe University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Health Science with Masters of Occupational Therapy Practice. Gladys has always had a strong passion to work in the paediatric field. She is experienced in supporting children with various diagnoses such as ASD, ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, Intellectual Disability, Dyspraxia and other Developmental Delays.

Gladys enjoys supporting children with their gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing, social skills, emotional regulation, handwriting and self care skills. She is fluent in English, Cantonese and some Mandarin. Outside of her work as a therapist, Gladys enjoys cooking, baking, travelling, spending time with friends and family. Last but not least, Gladys also actively volunteers at “kids club” in her church. Presently on maternity leave, eagerly anticipating the arrival of her newborn son and looking forward to rejoining the team once she is prepared to resume her contributions.

Alexander Wong

Alexander holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from Monash University, where he developed a strong foundation in providing holistic care to children with diverse needs. With a compassionate approach, Alexander is dedicated to supporting children in areas such as sensory processing, fine motor skills, social skills, problem-solving and emotional regulation. He firmly believes in the importance of collaboration with families and other support networks to ensure the best outcomes for his clients.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Alexander has a passion for magic. Prior to pursuing a career in occupational therapy, he served as a magic tutor, sharing his knowledge and skills with children aged 3-12. Today, Alexander seamlessly incorporates magic into his therapeutic approach, utilising it as a tool to bring joy and healing to those he works with.

In his leisure time, Alexander enjoys playing social soccer with friends, staying active and nurturing his sense of camaraderie. Proficient in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, he possesses the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, further enhancing his ability to provide inclusive and personalised care.

With a unique blend of professional expertise, compassion and creativity, Alexander is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of the children he serves.

Kyla Lui

Kyla graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). She dedicated her honours research project to investigating the relationship between children’s physical activities and leisure activity interests. Recognising each client’s unique interests and needs, Kyla values empowering children and young people to make their own choices and fulfil their individual goals.

Throughout her clinical experience, Kyla has supported children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual disability, developmental delays, and mental health difficulties. She has worked across various settings including hospitals, clinics, primary schools and within the community.

Kyla has experience delivering interventions to support children’s fine and gross motor skills, social skills, emotional regulation and sensory needs. She is passionate about utilising creative methods to collaborate with children and families, with a special interest in sensory integration and mental health. Kyla also enjoys working with children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

In her personal life, Kyla enjoys playing volleyball and going to the gym. She also loves photography, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Rachel Hui

Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from Monash University, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to serving children with diverse needs. With a profound belief in providing every child with equitable opportunities for growth and development, Rachel has garnered clinical experience addressing challenges associated with autism (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability and developmental delay.

Rachel’s dedication extends beyond traditional therapy settings, as she supports children in their natural environments, including school, kindergarten, childcare and home. By providing interventions in these familiar settings, she maximizes the impact of therapy and fosters seamless integration into daily routines.

Rachel holds a special interest in advancing sensory motor skills development, fostering school readiness and nurturing social-emotional growth in children. Proficient in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, she adeptly communicates with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring effective engagement and understanding.

Rachel prioritises building strong rapport with clients and employs family-centered interventions to address their goals. Dedicated to supporting the growth and flourishing of each client, she strives to provide personalised care and guidance throughout their therapeutic journey.

Joanna Iong

Joanna holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from Monash University and has a keen interest in working with children and teenagers in both private and community settings. Prior to joining Hope Kids OT, Joanna has specialised experience working in the community with paediatric participants with various disabilities. She is particularly skilled in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual disability, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delays and Sensory Processing Disorder. Joanna is passionate about providing support and education to families, helping them to access the resources they need to provide the best possible care for their child.

Outside of work, Joanna enjoys staying active by playing basketball, swimming, and badminton. She is able to communicate fluently in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, which allows her to communicate effectively with clients and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

May Lee

May is our principal occupational therapist who graduated from Latrobe University with more than 15 years of clinical experience. Prior to moving to Melbourne, May has worked with clients recovering from acquired brain injuries, rehabilitation settings & paediatric practice in Singapore. Since then, May has continued to work extensively in paediatric private practice in Melbourne and has specialised clinical experience in providing intervention for children and adolescents with Sensory Processing Disorders, Dyspraxia and social-emotional challenges. May is also multilingual, being proficient and able to converse fluently in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.

Beyond the clinical expertise, May is a passionate mentor and supervisor, shaping the next generation of paediatric occupational therapists. Her commitment to education and professional development has influenced countless therapists, ensuring that the highest standards of care are maintained.

Outside of the professional pursuits, May finds joy and inspiration in her own family. As the proud parent of a 6-year-old boy and a 1.5-year-old girl, she understands the challenges and joys of parenting firsthand, further deepening her empathy and insight into the needs of the children Hope Kids OT serves.

With May at the helm, Hope Kids OT offers a blend of clinical excellence, mentorship, cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of the needs of children. The dedication to improving young lives shines through in every aspect of her work.

Kristalle Lee

Kristalle has spent years in the dynamic role of an administrator, excelling in both operations and sales support. With a knack for organisation and a keen eye for detail, she has been instrumental in streamlining processes and ensuring the smooth functioning of the company.

Beyond the office, Kristalle thrives in the great outdoors and spending time with friends and family. She finds solace in the game of volleyball, where teamwork and strategy come together to create a winning combination. When not spiking volleyballs, she is often exploring the natural world, relishing in the beauty of nature, and savoring outdoor adventures.

Natasha Kennedy

Natasha is a passionate advocate for community engagement and healthcare excellence, deeply involved in local initiatives as an avid AFL fan. As a dedicated coach and volunteer at her children’s local football club, she fosters a love for the game in the next generation, all while relishing the opportunity to create lasting memories through sporting events and concerts with family and friends.
